January 31, 2025
We are planning a trip to the J P Morgan Library in January. The Library is on Madison Avenue and 36th street, New York City.
To mark the 2024 centenary of its life, the Morgan Library is presenting a major exhibition devoted to the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene. Greene's life story was told in the book MY PERSONAL LIBRARIAN. This exhibition honors her enduring legacy.
Using medieval manuscripts, rare books, archival records and portraits, this exhibition demonstrates the confidence and savvy Greene brought to her roles as librarian, scholar, curator and cultural executive. In addition, the Museum itself is a wonderful place to visit. The original 1906 building has been kept intact but enlarged. It houses a unique collection of literature and fine art.
We will carpool to the South Norwalk train station; take the train to Grand Central Station and then walk10 minutes to the Library. At the Museum, there is a wonderful Cafe that offers a full lunch menu. The plan is to arrive at the Museum in time for lunch and then go to the exhibit.
Details about carpooling and train time will be decided closer to the date. The group rate is $15. per person. RSVP date is January 17. To reserve, call Luisa Kelso at 203-762-1346 or email luisakelso@yahoo.com. Checks should be made out to Encore and sent to Luisa at 64 Deforest Road, Wilton 06897.
